Overview

The 57,408 SF two-story facility will be located south of the Naveen Jindal School of Management building and east of University Parkway, a site that will make the Athenaeum part of the campus gateway. The primary purpose of the Athenaeum is to house the Crow Asian Art, other galleries and seminar rooms. The massing is designed to have a smaller ground floor and larger second floor, creating a podium and overhang effect with covered exterior spaces at the plaza level that can be used for a variety of events, gatherings, art display, and contributing to everyday campus life. The two-story building massing is envisioned as a solid mass that is carved and sculpted which is the overarching approach to the rest of the buildings in the masterplan. A large carve in the north-south direction splits the building massing in two parts and creates a large two-story atrium and entry lobby that connects directly to the plaza. This massing split creates a distinct floating rectangular bar for the Other Galleries Museum that has a prominent location on the plaza. The other half of the massing houses the Crow Asian Gallery at a prominent location at the north face of the building.
